Last Updated: effective date
This notice adds to our Privacy Policy for residents of states with consumer privacy laws. Words defined in the Privacy Policy mean the same here. Some of these laws apply only to businesses above a certain size. We give the rights below to everyone, in every state, whatever our size.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, the law may give you some or all of these rights. We honor all of them for everyone:
- Know and access: what personal information we hold about you, where it came from, why we have it, and who we sold or disclosed it to, by name if you ask.
- Correct: fix anything that is inaccurate.
- Delete: have it deleted, except records the law requires us to keep, such as your consent record while it may be needed as proof.
- Portability: get a copy in a usable, machine-readable format.
- Opt out of sale: tell us not to sell your personal information. We sell a request when you submit it, so opting out afterward stops any further sale or disclosure, and we tell the agent who received it.
- Opt out of targeted advertising and profiling: tell us not to use your information for targeted advertising, or for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do neither today.
- Limit use of sensitive information: ask us to use any sensitive personal information only as needed for the service you asked for.
- No retaliation: we will never charge you more, give you worse service, or deny you anything because you used a right.
- Appeal: if we decline your request, you may appeal, and we will answer in writing with our reasons.
How to Make a Request
See Your Privacy Choices. We answer requests within 45 days, which we may extend once by another 45 days where the law allows, and we will tell you if we need to. We act on a request to opt out of sale within 15 business days. To protect you, we confirm who you are before acting, usually by matching the name, email, phone number and ZIP code you gave us. Someone you authorize in writing may make a request for you; we may need to confirm that authorization.
California
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the "CCPA"), gives you the rights above to know, delete, correct, opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for using your rights.
- Notice at collection. This notice and our Privacy Policy are our notice at collection. Each request form links to the Privacy Policy where it asks for your phone number.
- Categories we sell. We sell the categories listed under "What we sell, by category" in our Privacy Policy. They come from you, they are sold to licensed insurance agents, and we sell them so an agent can contact you about the coverage you asked for.
- Sharing. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Minors. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16, and our forms do not accept anyone under 18.
- Financial incentives. We offer no financial incentive in exchange for your personal information.
- Retention. How long we keep each category is described under "Information Retention" in our Privacy Policy.
- Global Privacy Control. Our sites do not yet read the Global Privacy Control signal automatically. Until they do, opt out through Your Privacy Choices. Attorney review the CCPA regulations require honoring GPC and an interactive opt-out for a business that sells.
